| Janet, Missy, Others Honor Aaliyah During VMAs
Jackson reads letter submitted to MTV.com by fan; Aaliyah's brother thanks friends and colleagues who offered condolences. The joyous, free-spirited atmosphere of the Video Music Awards was momentarily put on hold by a touching tribute to 22-year-old singer Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash August 25. Janet Jackson, in a pink hat and modest black dress, opened the memorial by recounting Aaliyah's sentiment when her grandmother passed away: "One day we will be together again." She then read a letter from K, 19, of Decatur, Georgia, which was sent to MTVNews.com (see "Fans Remember Aaliyah"). It said, in part, "I for one will not be sad or mourn her death, but celebrate her life and be thankful for her gift that's touched so many. We haven't lost anyone.

JANET JACKSON floored everyone with her noticeable weight gain earlier in the year, but she revealed to ET how she lost the weight -- and why she gained it in the first place.
"I put on the pounds for a film I was to do ... which a lot of people didn't know," Janet tells our KEVIN FRAZIER. "They wanted a full-figured woman."
Janet says they had to push the project back, and she had to pass on the opportunity in order to work on her new album. Of course, she had another assignment to take care of -- losing the weight!
"I worked really hard, and I continue to work very hard," says Janet about her lean new look. "I have to give credit to my parents' genes I suppose, and just working with great people [that] make me look good, and nutrition and a great trainer."
Janet's fellow singer KELLY CLARKSON says she was proactive about staying healthy while on tour.

Singer/actor Jamie Foxx celebrated his 39th birthday yesterday and has only one birthday wish - to go on a date with Janet Jackson. The singer was recently nominated for three Grammy Awards, but insists he would rather spend time with the sexy singer than win another musical honor. When asked about his ideal gift he says, "I think Janet Jackson would be good! But you know, not a date that's unsupervised, somebody there to kind of watch over the whole thing. I know she has a boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri, and everything. It would be nice to have a supervised date with Janet Jackson. "Nothing crazy or anything. I don't know if you've ever heard her album, but I just want her to whisper to me like she does on the album. She's the only person I know who can whisper an album.
FCC defends fine for Janet Jackson breast flash
WASHINGTON - The US Federal Communications Commission late Friday defended its decision to fine 20 CBS Corp. television stations $550,000 for airing a brief breast flash by pop singer Janet Jackson. The agency rejected CBS argument that her performance during the live 2004 Super Bowl football halftime show did not violate decency standards that restrict nudity on broadcast television. The FCC reasonably concluded that, although brief, this display of nudity violated longstanding federal prohibitions on the broadcast of indecent material, it said in a brief filed with the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Fellow pop singer Justin Timberlake ripped off part of Jacksons bustier exposing her breast for less than a second during the show. Despite the brevity, lawmakers and regulators were outraged and vowed a crackdown on broadcast indecency.
