What the gossip mags say

'Tis the season full of folly and all through the houses of the rich and famous, Christmas was celebrated yesterday with all the traditional heartwarming restraint that we expect from such lovely people as Madonna, the newly married Tom Thumbs and all the various Britneys.

Madonna raced downstairs, and downstairs and downstairs (it's a big house) to the Harrods Traditional Christmas Tree with Decorations As Worn by Her Late Majesty the Queen MotherĀ® and found several new designer frocks to wear when she feeds the chooks. There was also a nice new orphan, this one in yellow to match the curtains in the summer drawing room.

Tom celebrated Suri's first Christmas by ordering no snow (he gets nervous when the sky is falling). Kate spent the day elsewhere, having several centimetres of height surgically removed, but sent Tom another mirror for his collection, and he gave her a lovely new picture of himself plus an identikit book of the wedding guests in case she forgets who they were, as we have already.

Hilary Duff Now a Barbie Doll

Wanna-be singer, media icon, and self proclaimed actress Hilary Duff is the latest to be immortalized with her own Barbie Doll. Features for the new Hilary Barbie include plastic expressions during acting scenes, easily removable clothing, hair that can change color at the drop of a hat, and no singing voice.Mattel corporate spokesman Hal Young said that "We considered giving her no panties, as most little girls tend to lose the doll underwear and leave them naked anyway, but decided to leave them on in case we ever decided to make a Britney doll."The new toy is on store shelves now, though a little late for the big Christmas shopping rush. "We kind of hope that people will think of this as a last minute gift idea. After all, Hilary is sort of a "B" list actress, and once everything else is picked over in the stores, we think that the doll will be one of the last things left.

Op shop so lucky to serve Kylie

SHE is a princess with impeccable taste, our Kylie. For her Showgirl concerts, she strutted in dazzling costumes by Dolce and Gabbana, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel and John Galliano.

Then there were the sexy in the city Manolo Blahnik shoes and Swarovski crystals. Off stage, the poppet has more down-to-earth tastes and last week she popped into the Mecwa op shop in Wattletree Road, Malvern, to sniff out a retro bargain.

Accompanied by three minders, she strolled into the shop and left manager Anna McGoldrick gobsmacked. "She looked over at me with a big beaming smile," Anna regaled. "I think I looked like a startled rabbit and smiled back." Anna was then treated to a private performance when Kylie jigged to music playing in the store from The Aviator soundtrack. "It was very cute."

The poppet, looking dainty in a frock and flat shoes, admired a piece of jewellery in a cabinet, then wandered off and found some sheet music to her liking.

SCENE IN THE TROPICS Jeter spends the weekend in SoBe

A single Derek Jeter showed up at Mansion on Friday night for Scott Storch's birthday party, which featured a birthday shout-out by Ludacris and a scantily clad woman jumping out of a cake. Jeter was so well received by the hordes of women lining up at his table that Mansion had to bring on two extra security guards so he could have a little room, according to sources. Ultimately he left stag with his group of male friends around 3:30 a.m. Jeter and crew were spotted in Skybar's Red Room Saturday night; on Sunday, Jeter was at News Cafe, having a quiet lunch with two male friends at a back table, relatively unnoticed by the tourists around him.

Actress Lorraine Bracco was spotted at Funkshion on Friday night having dinner, drinks and watching the Friday night Cabaret Drag Queen Dinner Show.
