GM bringing Efijy, WTCC, Antara, T2X, Carmen Electra to Detroit

While we were pretty sure GM would grace Detroit with the Opel Antara and Holden Efijy, we didn't expect the WTCC, the T2X... and Carmen Electra. But GM announced this week all five would be in icy, snow-bound Michigan next month. As you well know, the Antara will be the new Saturn Vue and the WTCC and T2X hint at future Chevrolet style. So where does the sumptious Efijy fit into GM's North American plan? GM's press release announcing the North American debut of these concepts doesn't give any indication where in Cobo Hall the Efijy will be displayed. If we had to guess, the Efijy's Corvette V8 would score it a parking spot in the Chevrolet booth. But that's nothing more than pure speculation. As for Carmen Electra, she and Mario Lopez will be there to give the whole GM stand an air of celebrity.

Tyra Banks Proves Big Is Beautiful

Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Former catwalk queen Tyra Banks is taking a stance on the fashion industries obsession with stick-thin models.

The host of "The Tyra Banks Show" and "America's Next Top Model" says that she was inspired by designer John-Paul Gaultier's decision to open his recent show with a plus-size model.

To prove her point that you don't have to be thin to be beautiful, Banks hosted a modeling competition on her daytime talk show that was designed for plus size models.

Each contestant weighed in at a minimum 200 pounds.

The popular TV personality told the audience, "You do not have to be super stick skinny in order to model."

The competition was judged by plus-size model Mia Tyler, actor Josh Morrow and "American Idol" winner Ruben Studdard.

Tyra Banks Picks America’s Next Top Model

Queen and a girl who has survived cervical cancer, it's tough pickings for presenter and judge Tyra Banks in the new series of America's Next Top Model.

Its up to Tyra and her trustee co-judges; model icon Twiggy, Miss J Alexander, and noted fashion photographer Nigel Barker, to narrow the girls down to the final 13. Also, helping to hand select the girls is make-up artist and photo director Jay Manuel.

Episode 1, showing on Monday 29th January at 9pm, kicks off with the shortlist of 34 girls, whittled down from the thousands of entries who all travel to Los Angeles to try and impress Tyra, Miss J and Jay Emanuel by taking part in a photo shoot at the airport, where they have to display ten of their best poses as their first task. Then as 34 are cut down to 21, the competition gets fiercer with some girls shocked at not getting through the first cut.

'Tyra' banks on new deal with Fox stations

Warner Bros. Domestic TV's syndicated "Tyra Banks Show" got a major vote of confidence from Fox-owned TV stations in 22 markets, which have renewed the talker for another two years, through the 2008-09 season.

In some of the 22 markets, including New York, Dallas, Washington and Houston, two Fox-owned stations carry Banks' show in different time periods. In New York, WWOR carries it at 5 p.m. on weekdays and WNYW schedules it at 9 a.m. KTTV has "Tyra" exclusively in Los Angeles at 10 a.m. WPWR, a MyNetwork station owned by Fox, plays it exclusively in Chicago at 4 p.m.

The show's household rating is down 6% season to date to a 1.5, but Warner Bros. lost some of the double runs to get its rookie syndie series "The Keith Ablow Show" cleared on Fox stations.

And even though the show's down 8% year to year in the women 18-34 demographic to a 1.2, "Tyra" is still the fourth highest-rated series in that category among all 13 syndie talkshows, so the company gets a premium from Madison Avenue for the seven 30-second spots it sells within each hour.
